paper cut concert posters (2021)
ever since it was in high school, i always dreamed of being the designer who got to illustrate concert posters for all of my favorite bands.
in a typography class that i was taking, i was given an assignment that allowed me to do this. for this particular project, i experimented with – before translating my work to a digital format – cutting shapes out of black construction paper, arranging them on my workspace, and scanning them in before formatting them on adobe illustrator. i wanted them to feel disruptive with jagged edges and blocky sans serif fonts, but still aimed to retain a sort of organic nature in a lot of the forms that i was creating.
for the first set of posters that i worked, my professor asked us to create mockups for a “world music” concert at a venue in manhattan. i took creative liberties and decided that “world music” included one of my favorite underground greek punk bands: komodina 3, a group from early 2000s thessaloniki who released one record and never showed up to their only gig because it was too cold that night.
